Expensive Gas and Crap Gas Mileage

I've been recording my gasoline consumption since May using the website Fuelfrog (which I update using Twitter, this is the only reason why I use lame ass Twitter), and I've learned that I spend a fair bit of cash on gas and my gas mileage really stinks. The above graph is only a 30 day record of my MPG history (I wish Fuelfrog had an overall history graph, but I haven't seen a setting for that yet). Anyway, turns out I've been averaging about 18 MPG, so I'm burning about 2.6 gallons a day on my daily commute of about 50 miles round trip (Sherman Oaks to Valencia). Which at today's (7/31/08) gas price of $4.149/gallon at COSTCO on Sepulveda in Van Nuys it costs me $10.78 a day to drive to work. Which is cheaper and faster than Metrolink, plus I get the added bonus of getting to the office on time and not having to drive to Burbank to catch the train, then getting stranded 7 miles from my office in Santa Clarita at the train station.

What about the bus? Don't even ask...what a waste of time and money. Maybe if it was a little more convienent schedule and route wise.
